Bic Tizon Dife

chanson

BIC Tizon Dife, born Roosevelt Saillant, is one of the clearest modern examples of Haitian rap as poetry, public argument, and popular song at once. He first appeared on stage with the group Flex in 2000, then co-founded BIC, short for Brain-Intelligence-Creativity, with John Mogene. That group produced albums including 'Wow' in 2005 and 'Farther' in 2008 before Saillant moved into a solo career in 2010 while keeping the BIC name under his own label, Tizon Dife Recordz.

What makes BIC important is not only subject matter but command of language. Haitian Music Archive describes him as a poet-rapper-slammer who brings rap and folk together in a distinctly Haitian synthesis. He is not writing only for club impact; he writes to pressure conscience, to document frustration, to frame love and disappointment, and to push listeners back toward Kreyol as a serious artistic language. That is why he occupies a different lane from party-centered rap or straightforward pop crossover.

Between 2014 and 2016, his reach expanded well beyond Haiti. He won the French Institute's 'Visas for Creation' program, spent three months in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris while finishing 'Recto-Verso', and appeared at the 2014 and 2015 MaMA editions. In May 2016 he released 'Vokabi-Lari' after a national tour. He later collaborated with Nick Montfort and Michel DeGraff on a project exploring the links between music and poetry, which fits the literary core of his catalog.

His public role also extends beyond records. In May 2021, UNICEF Haiti named him a national goodwill ambassador alongside Jean Jean Roosevelt after years of involvement in campaigns around children's rights, birth registration, and youth participation. Inside HaitiDJ, BIC broadens the map of Haitian music by showing how rap kreyol can function as social memory, civic commentary, and crafted literature without leaving the popular sphere.
