5LAN

kompa

5LAN grew out of South Florida's Haitian diaspora, where DJs, dances, clubs, and live musicians often share the same night. The project comes from Jean Junior Belizaire, better known as Cinq Etwal: a DJ, promoter, and singer who was already organizing zouk and kompa nights in Miami before developing a 'Djazz Dj' idea that combined playback, re-looping, live instruments, and vocals.

The group's late-2000s beginnings matter because they show another path for modern kompa. Instead of starting from the classic big-orchestra model, 5LAN borrowed DJ language, added keyboards, guitar, drums, and singers, then made gouyad feel more intimate. The albums 'Machan'n Gouyad' and 'Another Round' made that identity clear: music for bodies, slow dancing, phones, and fan videos, while still staying connected to the kompa base.

'Kanpe Devan M', 'Map Vini', 'Another Round', 'Wet The Hell', 'Pi Bon Chwa', 'Hold Me Tight', and collaborations with Oswald, Alan Cavé, Swald Meilan, eby Joe, and other HMI voices place 5LAN as a gathering point for sensual diaspora kompa. It is not only a hit-driven act; it is a way to hear DJ culture, gouyad, R&B, Caribbean covers, and Haitian dance music forming one language for the streaming generation.
