Vwadèzil

kanaval

Vwadèzil sits at the point where Haitian carnival song, street chant, and electronic raboday begin to overlap. Apple Music's catalog shows the group with a full studio album, "Byen Vivan", in 2007, then a later run of singles including "Vakabon Kap Fel" in 2017, several releases in 2020, "Mande Yo Pou Mwen" in 2021, and "Destrese Nou Seye" in 2023. That arc suggests a group with roots in the mid-2000s carnival circuit that kept adapting instead of freezing in one season.

The group is closely tied to Freshla, whose writing style leans on wordplay, provocation, and topical social commentary. A reported history of raboday describes "Kite Ti Pati'm Kanpe" as one of the defining songs of Haiti's 2015 national carnival and credits Freshla and producer G-Dolph with helping push raboday forward after the January 12, 2010 earthquake. The same account places Freshla on his way to a Vwadèzil rehearsal when the quake struck and notes that the rehearsal space collapsed, killing two of his musicians.

That history helps explain why Vwadèzil's records often sound like more than party music. Songs tied to election seasons, public scandal, neighborhood slang, and carnival competition turn the group into a running record of how satire and dance move together in Haitian popular culture.
