WID

kompa

WID, born Widler Octavius, comes from Port-Salut and grew between Haiti's South and Port-au-Prince. He comes from a family where music was present, but his early chapters passed through church, shyness, and small local groups before the larger stages. He first worked with the Cayes-based group Mélodie, passed through G-7 des Cayes, and joined Zenglen in 2013 after Reginald Cangé's departure. With Zenglen, he learned the discipline of a major kompa band and became more visible to the HMI public.

His solo career, especially after leaving Zenglen, is built around reconstruction. The 'My Story' projects, 'Kole', 'Anbago', 'Vye Doulè', 'Mwen Beni', and the EP 'Pare' show a singer not only chasing hits, but narrating life stages: silence, wounds, blessing, a new start, and the will to return to the stage. His sound blends kompa, rara, afrobeat, zouk, reggae, and Caribbean pop with a voice more focused on emotion than force.

WID matters because he represents a different HMI path: coming from a provincial group, entering one of kompa's major institutions, then trying to build a solo brand in the age of YouTube and shorter EPs. He shows how former band vocalists have to learn to speak directly to fans, with personal story as core material.
