911
by Wyclef Jean · single · Released 2000-08-22
911 is one of Wyclef Jean's major ballads: a dialogue between hip-hop, soul, and emergency feeling, with Mary J. Blige's voice carrying it beyond straightforward rap. It shows Wyclef as a diaspora artist able to turn private drama, love, and pop melodrama into a global language without losing the sense of migration and wound that runs through his story.
