Kita Nago

by Bedjine · 2020 · kompa · 3:26 · Haitian Creole

Kita Nago is one of the records that established Bedjine as a kompa voice rather than a promising newcomer: repetition used deliberately, a clear melody, and relationship feeling stated without ornament across three and a half minutes. The phrase itself belongs to Haiti's 2013 unity march, when a piece of wood was carried the length of the country, and nothing in the record's metadata says the song is about that. This page does not decide it either. What is audible is a singer trusting a short phrase to carry weight through repetition — the instinct her later work keeps returning to.
