Myan myan
by Coupe Cloue · 2023 · twoubadou · 8:03 · Haitian Creole, French
“Myan myan” works first as sound. Repeating the syllables gives them the quality of onomatopoeia or spoken expression, but the data does not settle their meaning in Coupé Cloué’s song. That is no weakness in twoubadou, a tradition where the manner of saying a phrase can matter as much as its dictionary definition. PlayMusicVEVO’s visualizer appeared in 2023 and runs eight minutes and three seconds, signaling a recording in no hurry to finish. Voice, accompaniment, and repetition can give two small syllables a distinct personality. Rather than invent a translation, listeners can hear how Coupé Cloué makes the sound part of the track’s character.
