Mafia ft. Kenny Haiti
by Kai · 2020 · rabòday, kompa · 6:29 · Haitian Creole, French
KAI invites Kenny Haiti onto “Mafia,” a 2020 recording taking six minutes and twenty-nine seconds to mix rabòday and kompa. That length is closer to a developed band track than Kenny's brief pop singles. Richard Cavé brings KAI's writing and structure; Kenny adds the Kreyòl melody of the YouTube generation. The one-word title gives the collaboration an image of a closed group, but the record supplies no story to invent. What remains clear is a meeting between a post-Carimi band and a singer rising during the same period.
