King Kessy kanaval 2005
by Koudjay · 2009 · rasin · 6:26 · Haitian Creole, French
The source calls this recording “King Kessy” and identifies it as Koudjay’s piece for the 2005 carnival, although the video copy was uploaded in 2009. Its title puts singer and maestro Jean Samuel Lubin’s name first, like a seal on the era when he carried the group through the street. Across more than six minutes, roots drums, rara, voices, and chan pwen give the crowd material for dance and response. It documents Kessy’s presence as more than a performer: he organizes Koudjay’s political, comic, and collective carnival energy.
