“Deception” is one of the songs that foregrounds Nickenson Prud'homme’s melodic instinct beyond his work as a keyboardist, producer, and maestro. It comes from Première Danse, his 2005 solo album, although this digital source is dated 2017. Across nearly six minutes, keyboards and romantic kompa movement give disappointment a gentle rather than explosive form. Nickenson does not push the phrases; chord changes and arrangement carry much of the hurt. That balance anticipates the musical patience he would later bring to Harmonik.
