Hommage a Nemours Jean Baptiste
by Zenglen · 2024 · kompa · 7:51 · Haitian Creole, French
Zenglen takes seven minutes and fifty-one seconds to honor Nemours Jean-Baptiste, the musician recognized as the founder of compas direct. The subject has a natural link to a band that has lived within this genre for decades and transmitted it across generations. The 2024 video names no guest or singer; Zenglen as a collective carries the work of memory. Its length gives the arrangement more room than a romantic single. The page brings kompa history together with one of the modern institutions continuing to play it.
