Djapot

kompa

Djapot is a new-generation kompa band connecting South Florida's Haitian diaspora sound with the wider HMI ecosystem. The project is strongly shaped by Pedro Force, a singer, arranger, producer, and bandleader who grew up in a Haitian community where church music, gospel, kompa, and Caribbean sounds were part of daily life. In HMI interviews and profiles, Pedro describes Djapot as an idea he carried for years: a disciplined band with original songs, live-musician standards, and the ability to keep a dance floor moving.

The name Djapot carries its own identity. In Haitian Creole, the word is tied to luck, gain, or winning twice at once. For the band, that becomes a useful image: roots and modernity, Haiti and diaspora, studio and stage. Djapot is not only trying to repeat older kompa formulas; it keeps the groove while pushing toward cleaner production, sharper visuals, and hooks built for streaming platforms.

The debut album We Are Ready arrived in May 2024 on Pedro Force Studio, with enough scope to show that Djapot wanted to enter the industry with a real repertoire. Le Nouvelliste framed the album as the young group's step toward expanding its catalog after songs such as 'Lanmou a Lanvè', 'M Aprann', and 'Confusion'. Tracks like 'M Kon'n Valèm', 'Karma', 'Tu Es La', 'Eseye', and 'Lanmou Konplike' place Djapot between live kompa, romance, and playlist-era songcraft.

Inside the Top 40, 'M Kon'n Valèm' is the clearest gateway into Djapot: a song about self-worth and relationships, backed by an official video released on the band's channel in late 2024. Co-lead singer Ester Surpris adds important color, especially in the way male and female voices can answer each other inside the band. Djapot matters because it shows the Haitian diaspora building new kompa bands, not just new singles.
