Mickael Guirand
kompa
Mickael Guirand is one of the voices connecting the big-band kompa era of the 1990s and 2000s to the streaming-era HMI sound. Born in New York into a Haitian family, he passed through Kdans before Carimi made him one of the diaspora's most recognizable vocal signatures. After Carimi, he continued the story with Vayb alongside Jean Max Valcourt, Shedly Abraham, Judes Deslouches, and other musicians who shaped the project.
His strength is the balance between softness and control. He can make a love ballad feel private, but he also has the stage presence to lead a crowd. That is why his catalog works in several forms: solo-tagged records, Vayb songs, collaborations, and newer material such as 'Nap Desann'. 'Je Ferai', 'Game Over', 'Fo M Ale', 'Poto', 'One Night Stand', 'Kite M', 'Ranplase', and 'Ou Pa Vle' show a singer who understands relationship drama, gouyad, direct hooks, and the way HMI fans keep a song alive.
After more than three decades on stage, Mickael is not only a former Carimi member. He is a model for the kompa singer as project leader: someone using voice, experience, and fan memory to keep the music moving without breaking the connection to what made the Carimi generation so powerful.
