Podyab Yo
by Blondedy Ferdinand · 2022 · kompa, rnb · 6:11 · Haitian Creole
Blondedy Ferdinand entered Haitian public imagination through film before music — I Love You Anne, Les Couleurs de la Dignité, Sarah — and Podyab Yo is what that training produces applied to a record. Six minutes is an actor's running time, not a single's: there is room for a romantic grievance to become a situation, and for a situation to become a scene. With D-Perfect alongside her, she plays kompa-pop as fully committed melodrama, the video and the song telling the same story.
