Abracadabra
by Dener Ceide & Reginald Cange · 2023 · kompa · 6:16 · Haitian Creole, French
Abracadabra is one of fourteen tracks Zafem put out on the same day, 5 May 2023 — a whole album arriving at once rather than one title after another. Six minutes sixteen in the middle of a wave like that has to hold attention on its own, and the Céide-Cangé writing partnership manages it: unhurried kompa pacing, elegant harmonic turns, and space that lets each phrase breathe. The title is a magic word, but nothing here is quick — the work is what produces the effect.
