Je N'aime Pas (40% Konpa Cover)
by DROXYANI · 2020 · kompa · 4:38 · Haitian Creole, French
Alexandre "Dro" and Yani Martelly take a francophone pop hit and slow it down. That is what a konpa cover does to an Aya Nakamura track: the same melody, placed in a Caribbean dance frame moving at another speed, where the space between the notes counts as much as the notes. Four minutes thirty-eight, in January 2020. The brothers work in a diaspora space where kompa, zouk, afro-pop, trap and Caribbean pop mix faster than labels can follow, and a cover is the clearest way to show it.
