Fe Lapli feat. Kenny Haiti
by Mikaben · 2021 · kompa, kompa-gouyad · 4:37 · Haitian Creole, French
Fè Lapli pairs Mikaben with Kenny Haiti over bright kompa-gouyad, and the hook writing is the generous kind — built to be handed to a crowd rather than kept. Michael Benjamin spent a career refusing to stay in one room: piano, guitar, bass and drums learned at home in Port-au-Prince, then twoubadou, gospel, pop, rasin and kompa all treated as places he was entitled to work. It went up in August 2021, a little over a year before his death, and it is now heard through that. The record itself is unclouded, which is part of why it holds.
