Joyeux Anniversaire
by Orchestre Septentrional · 2020 · kompa · 6:03 · Haitian Creole, French
Orchestre Septentrional carries “Joyeux Anniversaire” into a kompa arrangement lasting more than six minutes. It is an occasion song, but that duration takes it beyond the brief refrain sung before a cake is cut. The band has room to place celebration in the language of a dance orchestra, where rhythm can serve the guests as much as the person being honored. This 2020 version appears on Septentrional’s official channel without a specific name or event in the title. It consequently remains useful across many birthdays, while the ensemble gives a Haitian and collective form to a familiar French wish.
