Kraze
by Oswald · 2024 · kompa · 4:07 · Haitian Creole, French
Oswald calls this 2024 recording “Kraze,” a Creole verb able to carry force, destruction, or the idea of a performance overpowering everything. The Saint Martin singer grew between R&B, soul, zouk, and kompa-gouyad, and the track’s four minutes place his melodic voice over Caribbean dance form. Its compact title requires production and delivery to give it physical meaning. Oswald need not imitate a large Haitian band to enter kompa; his Francophone Caribbean experience lets the cadence circulate with another island accent.
