Rutshelle Guillaume

kompa, zouk

Rutshelle Guillaume is one of the dominant voices in modern HMI. Born in Port-au-Prince on July 28, 1988, she grew up in settings where church, school, and talent competitions opened her first doors. She placed second on Digicel Stars in 2007, then moved through years of preparation before her 2014 debut album Emotions established her as a female voice that could not be pushed into the background.

What distinguishes Rutshelle is the way she places women at the center of kompa and zouk storytelling. She sings with force, but that force is not only volume; it is control, phrasing, and the ability to make a simple line feel like a confession. 'Kite m Kriye', 'M Pa La Ankò', 'Rete La', 'Tolere w', 'Dyalog' with Jocelyne Béroard, 'Ke m Nan Men w', and 'Mwen Wè m Nan Ou' work on two levels: dance floor and therapy.

The 2017 album Rebelle and 2021's Quoi Qu'il Advienne widened the story. Rutshelle does not only release popular singles; she organizes her music into chapters where hurt, faith, pride, desire, and personal rebuilding all have room. Nominations and awards, including Haitian Music Awards and Afrimma recognition, show how she became a Haitian figure beyond the local market without leaving Creole or HMI feeling behind.

The RGXperience videos and official live cuts make her artistry even clearer: medleys, rearrangements, a tribute to Mikaben, Haitian memory, and stage control. Rutshelle represents a rare model in Haitian music: a female artist carrying hits, performance, women's storytelling, and a catalog long enough to measure more than a decade of HMI change.
