Se Pa Pou Dat
by Alan Cavé · 2001 · kompa, zouk · 5:20 · Haitian Creole, French
“Se Pa Pou Dat” says something about time: this is not for a season, it carries no expiry. Alan Cavé, born in New York into a Haitian artistic family, sings it in a kompa and zouk blend running five minutes and twenty seconds. That length is not incidental — it lets the voice settle a feeling rather than announce it. His father Syto Cavé and mother Yanick Jean surrounded him with poetry, theatre and music, and the writing shows it in the choice of words.
