“Illusion” places Arly Larivière and Nu-Look before the gap between what a relationship appears to be and what it actually is. The 2015 Topic version runs beyond seven minutes, giving melody room to breathe and kompa bass time to move gently. Arly uses doubt, pride, jealousy, and regret as material for dance music whose words still matter after the party. This French title does the same work: the groove can feel real in the body while the voice wonders whether love is only an image destined to disappear.
