Nu-Look
kompa, kompa-gouyad
Nu-Look is Arly Larivière's laboratory for a more sophisticated, emotional, and often more intimate kompa than the big carnival lane. From Cap-Haïtien, Arly grew up around a musical family and moved through several bands, including Kazak Eksperyans, Lakòl, Feeling, D'Zine, and Zenglen Plus, before forming Nu-Look in 2000. His experience as singer, songwriter, producer, keyboardist, and bassist gives the group a sharply recognizable signature.
The first Nu-Look was built on the creative tension between Arly and Gazzman Couleur. That era gave the band stage power, major voices, and a kompa model that could stay romantic while keeping the body of the dance. After Gazzman left to form Disip, and after the Pipo period, Arly chose to continue as the sole lead singer. It was one of the major risks in modern HMI, because many listeners doubted Nu-Look could remain at the top without two front-line vocal stars.
The answer came through albums and hits: Big Mistake, Still News, Abò, Confirmation, I Got This, My Time, No Stress, and other projects that made Arly the 'King of compas love' for many fans. 'Wasn't Meant to Be' holds a special place because it pushed Nu-Look beyond the traditional Haitian market into the French Antilles and to listeners hearing kompa as an international romance song.
Nu-Look is known for melodies that breathe, bass lines that move the body gently, and relationship writing full of hurt, disagreement, forgiveness, jealousy, and pride. 'Loving You', 'Avenue de la Passion', 'Notre Histoire', 'Confession', 'Wasn't Meant to Be', 'Cauchemar', 'Why Now', 'Until When', and 'My Feelings' work on two levels: they are made for close dancing, but they also reward listening to the words after the party ends.
The official-channel additions strengthen the live-performance side of the profile: 'What About Tomorrow' at Olympia, 'Lanmou Pap Fini' at Club 7, 'A Coeur Ouvert' and 'Pa Chache Konnen' live in Atlanta. They show how Arly can reshape the same emotional language around the room, the crowd, and the moment.
