Terapi
by Barikad Crew · 2021 · kanaval · 6:26 · Haitian Creole, French
Barikad Crew calls this track “Terapi,” making music sound like a place where pressure can be released. The catalog classifies it as carnival, though its October 2021 release sits outside the traditional parade season. It can therefore carry carnival’s collective energy without being tied to one weekend. Across six minutes and twenty-six seconds, different rap voices have room to enter while rhythm and repetition work like a communal exercise. Therapy here need not mean silence or retreat. It can mean noise, movement, speaking loudly, and finding other people ready to carry the same weight in a refrain. The title gives public release a private name.
