Heartbreak & Misery

by Disip · 2016 · kompa · 6:32 · Haitian Creole, French

Disip places two forms of pain beside each other on “Heartbreak & Misery.” Heartbreak may come from one particular relationship, while misery broadens the feeling into the person’s whole condition. Joined by “and,” the words suggest that one can lead toward the other or both can arrive together. This 2016 kompa recording lasts six minutes and thirty-two seconds, giving sadness time to develop without rhythm losing its discipline. Kompa can hold that contradiction well: an arrangement built for dancing while the voice remains inside suffering. Disip’s Topic source adds no other billing, leaving the two English words to draw the entire emotional map.
