Complainte Paysanne James Germain/Fatima Altieri
by Fatima · 2019 · kompa, zouk · 4:31 · Haitian Creole, French
“Complainte Paysanne” brings James Germain and Fatima Altieri together in a 2019 video lasting four minutes and thirty-one seconds. The French title announces a lament or painful song from rural life, while two voices bring differences of generation, color, and interpretation. James Germain connects Haitian song with international stages; Fatima contributes her soft kompa-zouk voice. This page invents neither a farmer nor a specific story. It centers the duet as transmission, where a lament form receives new breath when two singers enter it with their own musical memories.
