Sex Friend
by Gabel · 2019 · kompa · 5:20 · Haitian Creole, French
Gabel gives “Sex Friend” an English title for a relationship in which physical intimacy and commitment do not necessarily travel together. Rather than disguise that gap, the track names it at the outset. This 2019 kompa recording runs five minutes and twenty seconds, leaving room for questions of boundaries, expectations, and what two people believe they have agreed upon. An official video appeared that year through Flav Official. Within Gabel’s catalog, the song brings a modern and often complicated arrangement into a kompa setting that can hold the conversation without turning it into a moral verdict.
