MEDJY
kompa
Medjy Toussaint, often known as Medjy Enposib, is one of the most visible voices in Haitian neo-kompa and kompa-pop. Recent sources describe an artist born in Canada, raised in Haiti, and drawn into music around age 12 after finding a Casio keyboard at his aunt's house. After early steps with TNT, he went to Montreal for studies, trained in sound, administration, and finance, and co-founded Enposib in 2012 with Patrice Cavé and Nicolas Millet.
With Enposib, Medjy helped put a sound blending Haitian rhythms, zouk, R&B, contemporary production, and community-party feeling onto the HMI map. 'Bò'm Sou 2 Bò', 'Pa Tann', 'On Ti Pa', 'Defo', and the 'Sa Pa Lov' period made him a voice of the streaming-and-diaspora generation. Enposib's strength was making kompa-zouk feel young without losing Creole hooks, sentiment, or the ability to make a crowd sing.
When Medjy moved solo with '48 Rebecca' in 2023, he did more than change format; he opened a more personal chapter about love, reflection, hurt, and resilience. The project has 10 tracks, runs about 33 minutes, and shows an artist searching for his own identity after the band's peak popularity. His February 22, 2025 Place Bell concert in Laval, after time away from the stage, showed that fans were ready to follow that transition.
'Soperiye', 'Jou Dega', 'Konsèy', 'Lasyans', 'Bad Gyal' with Kenny Haiti, 'Awoyo', and 'Chanm 22' show Medjy's strength: making vulnerability feel young, melodic, and easy to repeat. He helps explain the current solo-artist side of HMI, where a singer can move outside the traditional band model while still carrying kompa's grammar in every phrase.
