Aliyah
by Joé Dwèt Filé · 2020 · zouk · 2:14 · Haitian Creole, French
"Aliyah" uses a person's name as the entire title of Joé Dwèt Filé's 2020 single. At two minutes and fourteen seconds, it is among the shortest tracks in his zouk catalog, so name, voice, and refrain arrive without delay. Creole and French are cataloged while the name reads similarly across audiences. In a year containing several longer relationship songs, "Aliyah" chooses economy: one figure at the center and a cadence taking no detour.
