An Kachet by Roody Roodboy

An Kachet

by Roody Roodboy · 2019 · kompa, dancehall · 6:49 · Haitian Creole

An Kachet uses length to do what a single normally cannot. At nearly seven minutes it sits far past radio shape, and Roody Roodboy spends the room building a situation rather than restating a hook. The title means, plainly, in hiding — and the arrangement gives whatever is being hidden enough time to develop consequences. The kompa-dancehall mix stays dramatic throughout, but the drama comes from narrative sequence rather than volume. It is the other half of the case his shorter records make: the artist who can compress into four minutes will refuse to compress at all when the story asks for it.
