Ogou
by Weena La Chanteuse · 2011 · rasin, vodou-jazz · 6:07 · Haitian Creole
Ogou is a name with its place in the Vodou pantheon, and Weena La Chanteuse does not explain it — she sings it. Six minutes and seven seconds let the voice and the drums take their room unhurried, in a roots form that stays closer to ceremony than to concert. Nadine Narcisse places herself in a line running through Toto Bissainthe, Mambo Lucienne, Carole Demesmin, Wawa and Azor: singers who carry spiritual memory into recorded music without turning it into scenery. That is what this record continues.
