Kanaval 2012
by RAM · 2012 · rasin · 5:14 · Haitian Creole, French
The title “Kanaval 2012” ties RAM’s track to one specific season, but its rasin sound carries a history longer than a single year. In this form, percussion, voice, and street movement let tradition enter the public questions of the moment. Emmanuel V’s official video appeared on February 20, 2012, and runs five minutes and fourteen seconds, serving as both festival music and a record of its time. The data supplies no subtitle that would narrow the message. The year itself becomes the piece’s name, a marker that listeners inside the season could understand as RAM’s rhythm carried it through the crowd.
