Savalou Reginald Cange & Dener Ceide
by ZAFEM · 2019 · kompa · 5:51 · Haitian Creole, French
“Savalou” stands among the first major public statements from Zafèm, the collaboration Dener Céide and Réginald Cangé formally launched in 2019. The recording gives Cangé’s voice nearly six minutes to breathe while Céide’s guitar and arrangements build an unhurried kompa setting. Its title takes the name of a Beninese city, joining that sense of travel to music rooted firmly in Haiti. This is an early doorway into Zafèm’s method: generous space, close attention to detail, and emotion allowed to develop without needless noise.
